Common Questions
Water Treatment FAQ
Softener, conditioner, descaler, or filter — what's the difference?
A salt-based softener removes hardness minerals through ion exchange, giving you the classic "soft water" feel (slick water, better lather, spot-free dishes). Salt-free conditioners and descalers leave the minerals in but stop them from forming scale — no salt, no drain, no maintenance. A whole-home filter targets chlorine taste, odor, and sediment rather than hardness. If you're unsure, we test your water on-site and confirm the right system before any work begins.
Is this the real installed price or just an estimate?
The price shown is a committed installed price for that system — it includes the equipment, professional installation, code-required materials, permits, and startup. We test your water and confirm the final fit on-site before any work begins; if your setup needs something non-standard, we review it with you first.
Do I need salt? What's the maintenance like?
Only salt-based softeners use salt — you add it periodically and they backwash to a drain. Salt-free conditioners, descalers, and filters require essentially no ongoing maintenance: no salt refills, no backwashing, and no drain line. If low maintenance matters most, a salt-free option is usually the better fit.
Will a softener help with dry skin, spotty dishes, and soap scum?
Yes — those are the classic symptoms of hard water, and a salt-based softener is the most direct fix. It removes the calcium and magnesium that cause spotting, soap scum, and that "filmy" feeling, so soap lathers better and skin and hair feel less dry.
My water tastes or smells like chlorine. Which system fixes that?
That's a job for the whole-home filter, which reduces chlorine, sediment, and taste-and-odor issues throughout the house. Note that a filter does not address hardness or scale — if you have both concerns, we can pair a filter with a softener or conditioner.
Do you offer financing?
